Mariusz Korczyński, Barbara Grabowska

Abstract

The aim of the research was to determine the emotional level of readiness for dialogue with the Other of Poles staying in emigration in England. Due to the adoption of a comparative research model, a similar group of English speakers in terms of demographics and society was taken as a reference group. In the research a survey method and a research tool in the form of intercultural sensitivity scale by Guo-Ming Chen and William J. Starosta (1996) were used. The research covered 154 Poles on economic emigration and 160 Englishmen living in the south-west parts of England. The research tool was distributed using the snowball method using modern means of communication for this purpose. The research showed a significantly higher level of readiness for dialogue with a foreigner on the side of the English respondents, both in terms of individual detailed dimensions and in the global dimension. However, one can acknowledge that the surveyed Poles staying in England mostly present the high average with tendencies towards the high level of readiness.
