Anti-Ageism Practices on the Example of the City of Lublin

Abstract

Ageism, which is defined as discrimination on the grounds of age, is a negative phenomenon which becomes increasingly problematic every year because of the perception of young and active people as more desirable than elderly people. As a result, the latter are pushed to the peripheries of social life and, in most cases, they face social exclusion. The Guidelines of the 2014–2020 Long-term Senior Policy (Założenia Długofalowej Polityki Senioralnej w Polsce na lata 2014–2020) are the important element of the struggle against ageism. All state institutions apply them in projects which secure and support the activity of seniors. Various initiatives and forms of senior support organized in the city of Lublin are presented in the article.
