Abstract

Health behaviours of preschool children is a very important element in shaping and consolidating the correct habits of a healthy lifestyle. Active attitudes towards health should be shaped in children from an early age. A healthy lifestyle of a child, including proper nutrition, physical activity in the fresh air, proper hygiene, and an appropriate amount of sleep are important factors in the proper development of a child, their health and well-being. Habits established during this period have a decisive influence on the later lifestyle of an adult. During classes conducted in preschool, there are many opportunities and situations in which it is possible to shape active attitudes of children towards their own health. But a special role in shaping healthy behaviour falls to parents. The aim of the study was to determine the status of health behaviours of children in the family environment. The survey involved 197 parents of 5- and 6-year-old children from selected kindergartens in the cities of Bielsk Podlaski and Siedlce. Attention was paid to habits such as healthy eating, sleep, personal hygiene, follow-up visits to a specialist doctor, mental health and physical activity. Research has shown that, in general, children’s health behaviours are pro-health, but there is a group of children who exhibit anti-health behaviours. Therefore, health education of parents becomes necessary.
