EU–New Zealand Relations – towards a New Trade Agreement

Elżbieta Majchrowska

Abstract

The serious crisis on the WTO forum and the dynamically changing international environment (including the policies of the USA and China) create favourable conditions for strengthening the EU’s cooperation with other partners. Therefore, Regional Trade Agreements (RTAs) constitute an increasingly more important element of the foreign trade policy of the EU and, what is particularly evident in this context, a special interest in the Asia-Pacific region. The trade and investment strategy for the EU – “Trade for All” – presented in 2015, clearly accentuated the importance of New Zealand (NZ) as a trading partner for the EU, which constituted a starting point for taking specific measures with a view to regulating bilateral trade relations more comprehensibly in a form of a future Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
