Foreign sources of domestic investments in Poland in the period from 1994 to 2010

Abstract

This article attempts to analyze the size and structure of foreign funding of domestic investment. The way to analyze sources of financing domestic investment was based on the absorption approach to the balance of payments. Domestic investments in Poland in 1994-2010 were financed by the overwhelming size of the national economy. Coverage of average domestic investment by domestic savings was about 89%. The role of foreign savings apparently was confined only to fill in missing funds. But we must remember that – due to the large share of capital flows in the form of foreign direct investment – foreign savings affected among others the usage and spread of new technologies, transfer of knowledge and skills in management and organization thus contributing to quantitative and qualitative changes in the economy.
