Vive la France ! Vive la République ! About democracy in France according to Henryk Sienkiewicz

Cezary Mateusz Zalewski

Abstract

The article is an analysis of the image of French democracy presented by Henryk Sienkiewicz in his letters from Paris. The writer presents the republican system in terms of pacifist utopia, in which free press and science freely develops. The writer appreciates, first of all, the possibility of free exchange of political ideas and scientific views, and therefore he is offended by a certain dogmatism of present French literature.
